The Opportunity 

PCG’s Education Consulting service line seeks a Curriculum Lead for a highly complex and exciting English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum development project for a major urban district. The project provides motivated individuals a unique opportunity to support educators and students in actualizing the Next Generation Learning Standards for English Language Arts by creating custom curricular content that is centered around culturally relevant and sustaining texts, themes, and instructional practices. The ELA Curriculum Lead will oversee the content team, including lead writers and writers, through training, drafting, and revision processes to ensure the overall coherence of the grades K5 curriculum. The ELA Curriculum Lead will support the content team through a highly creative, iterative, and collaborative development process to produce lessons that are rigorous, engaging, and meaningful to students. Specific responsibilities and skill/experience requirements are detailed below.  

This is a full-time, remote role, with occasional in-person meetings. Some travel may be required. The start date is January 2023, with the possibility of an earlier start for candidates with availability.  

 

About PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line 

PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line works with states, districts, and schools to address a wide spectrum of needs such as curriculum development, instructional resources audits, design and facilitation of professional development and professional learning communities, school improvement, and program reviews. 

Project engagements have included the development of the EngageNY grades 6–12 English Language Arts curriculum for the New York State Education Department and the delivery of related implementation services across several states; the design and delivery of a system of a K–3 professional learning program for the Connecticut State Department of Education; and the creation of training and resources to support standards implementation for the Florida Department of Education. We recently collaborated with Chicago Public Schools (IL) to develop a full-year, standards-aligned digital curriculum for PK–12 English Language Arts and mathematics and are providing asynchronous and synchronous professional learning to teachers and administrators to support implementation. Currently, we are also developing a K–5 ELA curriculum in partnership with Pinellas County Schools (FL) to support their transition to the new Florida B.E.S.T standards. We are also partnering with the Texas Education Agency to develop and/or revise several curricula to respond to stakeholder feedback, including K–12 Reading Language Arts, K–6 Spanish Language Arts, K–5 Mathematics, K–5 Social Studies, K–2 Spanish Skills, K–5 Science, and K–5 Integrated (Science, Social Studies, Reading Language Arts). 

 

Responsibilities

The Role 

The Grades K5 ELA Curriculum Lead will: 

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of instructional and technical specifications and oversee adherence to the specifications that will be documented in project requirements. 
  • Provide leadership for content team in the implementation of instructional and technical specifications, as well as overall quality assurance and on-time delivery of deliverables. 
  • Develop model deliverables that comply with specific design criteria. 
  • Support lead writers in the formal review of draft deliverables and model, providing actionable written and verbal feedback for writers to apply. 
  • Provide supervision and support for lead writers. 
  • Work closely with project leadership, K5 ELA content leadership, and client content team in a rapid development process, including coordinating workflow where their involvement is required and engaging them in quality assurance to ensure alignment to client expectations. 
  • Collaborate with project team to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of the grades K–12 curricular resources 
  • Partner with the 612 Curriculum Lead to ensure consistency of approach (as appropriate) and share best practices for reviewing and providing feedback on grade-level deliverables in support of their lead writers. 
  • Collaborate with project management and operations teams to ensure that established processes and structures are appropriately implemented.  
  • Identify and act upon opportunities to improve processes, operations, and client services. 
  • Have availability during the regular work week, with some night or weekend work as needed.

  • Passionate about reading, writing, and a wide variety and types of texts (inclusive of a variety of media, including websites, videos, films, podcasts, and eBooks) 
  • Dedicated to achievement for all students  

Qualifications

Required/Desired Experience 

  • Five or more years teaching experience in K12 public school setting  
  • Deep content knowledge in English Language Arts as evidenced by years of teaching, advanced degree, and/or other relevant experience (preferably district-level experience) 
  • Experience writing standards-based curriculum at elementary level 
  • Experience teaching diverse learners, including English Learners and students with disabilities  
  • Previous team leadership experience of 3 or more years 
  • Experience developing curricular resources for use by other teachers 
  • Familiarity with Google Drive 
  • Experience with digital learning instructional design (Preferred) 
  • Familiarity with the Hidden Voices initiative, as well as the Expeditionary Learning and HMH Into Reading curriculum products (Preferred)  
  • Masters degree or higher or equivalent experience

Compensation

Compensation for roles at Public Consulting Group varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, PCG provides the following reasonable range of compensation for this role: $53,876 - $125,000.
