Responsibilities

The Opportunity:

PCG’s Education Consulting service line seeks Curriculum Writers for a highly complex and exciting English Language Arts (ELA) digital curriculum development project. The project provides motivated individuals a unique opportunity to support educators and students in the design and development of a supplemental PK foundational skills curricular resource. Curriculum writers will engage in a creative, iterative, and collaborative development process to produce lessons and practice activities that are rigorous, engaging, and meaningful to students. Specific responsibilities and skill/experience requirements are detailed below. This is a full-time, remote role, with an anticipated duration through July 2023. 

 

About PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line:

PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line works with states, districts, and schools to address a wide spectrum of needs such as curriculum development, instructional resources audits, design and facilitation of professional development and professional learning communities, school improvement, and program reviews.

Project engagements have included the development of the EngageNY grades 6–12 English Language Arts curriculum for the New York State Education Department and the delivery of implementation services across several states; the design and delivery of a system of a K–3 professional learning program for the Connecticut State Department of Education; and the creation of training and resources to support standards implementation for the Florida Department of Education. We recently collaborated with Chicago Public Schools (IL) to develop a full-year, standards-aligned digital curriculum for PK–12 English Language Arts and mathematics and are providing asynchronous and synchronous professional learning to teachers and administrators to support implementation. Currently, we are also developing a K–5 ELA curriculum in partnership with Pinellas County Schools (FL) to support their transition to the new Florida B.E.S.T. standards.

 

The Role:

Responsibilities and expectations of Curriculum Writers include the following.

  • Develop a supplemental PK foundational skills curricular resource, including:
    • 35 weeks of developmentally appropriate lessons and practice activities for whole group use,
    • small-group activities that support the diverse needs of students, and
    • optional assessment tools aligned to the scope and sequence.
  • Develop deliverables that comply with specific design criteria and for implementation in a digital environment.
  • Engage in a highly collaborative and rapid development process, which includes regular engagement with team members, peer review, client feedback, and other formative feedback.
  • Availability during regular work week, with some night or weekend work as needed.
  • Commitment for the duration of the project (anticipated to be 10 to 12 months) with opportunity for future work.

Qualifications

Required/Desired Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (preferably in elementary/early childhood education and/or early literacy education) 
  • Experience teaching diverse learners in early childhood and early elementary classroom(s), including English Language Learners and students with disabilities  
  • Experience developing curricular resources for use by others 
  • Experience with Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards (IELDS) 
  • Experience with Teaching Strategies GOLD Objectives for Learning and Development, NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practices, and current research and evidence-based practices in early literacy 
  • Experience with Chicago Public Schools Essential Elements of the Preschool Day and CPS Skyline K–2 Foundational Skills (Preferred) 
  • Experience with WIDA (Preferred) 
  • Experience with digital learning instructional design (Preferred) 
  • Experience with Google (Preferred)

Compensation

Compensation for roles at Public Consulting Group varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, PCG provides the following reasonable range of compensation for this role: $55,156 - $78,561.
