Senior Communication Coordinator - CDC in Augusta, ME

The CDC Senior Communication Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:

1.    Educate the public about the development, authorization, distribution, and execution of COVID-19 vaccines and those situations are continually evolving.

2.    Ensure public confidence in the approval or authorization process, safety, and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines.

3.    Engage in dialogue with internal and external partners to understand their key considerations and needs related to COVID-19 priority populations.

4.    Ensure active, timely, accessible, and effective public health and safety messaging along with outreach to key partners and the public about Maine CDC, including COVID-19 vaccines.

5.    Provide guidance to local health departments, clinicians, and other hosts of COVID-19 vaccination provider locations.

6.    Track and monitor public receptiveness to COVID-19 vaccination messaging.

7.    Oversee and manage efforts to solicit feedback from stakeholders across Maine.    

8.    Assist in managing public awareness and prevention campaigns for the Maine CDC.

9.    Provide editing assistance for communications across multiple programs.

10. Perform research to inform policy and communication decisions.

11. Assist with social media management and reporting of information.


Performs duties primarily on site in Augusta, ME, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding State holidays and administrative closings. This position will work approximately 1-2 days a week, or as approved by CDC Management. This position may require extended hours and weekend work. Hours worked over forty-five (45) are paid on a straight basis (hour or hour compensation), when specifically pre-approved in writing by CDC Management.


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field with two (2) year combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates knowledge of communication strategy development, including:

1)    Experience knowledge, skills, and abilities related to:

i)      Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

ii)     Social Media Platforms (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)

iii)   Public health messages using public service announcements, media outlets, and social media platforms.

iv)   Documentation practices.

v)    Effective and strong oral and written communication skills.

vi)   Interacting effectively with public health partner/agencies/organizations.

vii)  Strong facilitation and presenting skills to hold stakeholder meetings and move discussions and report out outcomes. 

viii)Ability to work independently.

ix)   Excellent interpersonal skills and critical thinking.

x)    Strong organizational skills.

xi)   Strong technical writing skills.

xii)  Access to secure high-speed internet services.

xiii)Ability to multi-task & prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

2)    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

i)      Experience with Public Health Promotions and Media Messaging.

ii)     Public communications experience with diverse populations.

iii)   Experience with online video and chat applications.
