Responsibilities

The Opportunity 

PCG’s Education Consulting service line seeks a Grades K–6 Curriculum Lead for a highly complex and exciting Spanish Language Arts (SLA) curriculum development project. The project provides motivated individuals a unique opportunity to support educators and students in actualizing the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and to be responsive to stakeholder feedback on the instructional materials available in Texas Home Learning. The Curriculum Lead will manage the revision road mapping process, as well as oversee teams through a rapid content revision process to ensure the overall coherence of the K–6 SLA curriculum. Specific responsibilities and skill/experience requirements are detailed below. This is a remote role, with occasional in-person meetings. The start date is May 2022, with the possibility of an earlier start for candidates with availability.   

About PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line 

PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line work with states, districts, and schools to address a wide spectrum of needs such as curriculum development, instructional resources audits, design and facilitation of professional development and professional learning communities, school improvement, and program reviews. 

Project engagements have included the development of the EngageNY grades 6–12 English Language Arts curriculum for the New York State Education Department and the delivery of implementation services across several states; the design and delivery of a system of a K–3 professional learning program for the Connecticut State Department of Education; and the creation of training and resources to support standards implementation for the Florida Department of Education. We recently collaborated with Chicago Public Schools (IL) to develop a full-year, standards-aligned digital curriculum for PK–12 English Language Arts and mathematics and are providing asynchronous and synchronous professional learning to teachers and administrators to support implementation. Currently, we are also developing a K–5 ELA curriculum in partnership with Pinellas County Schools (FL) to support their transition to the new Florida B.E.S.T standards.  

The Role 

  • In coordination with our vendor partner(s) and Reading Language Arts Leads, lead the revision of a grades K–5 Spanish Language Arts curriculum and K–2 Spanish Skills curriculum, including program-level, course-level, unit-level, and lesson-level material. Also, lead the development of grade 6 Spanish Language Arts units.   
  • Contribute to the collection and analysis of stakeholder feedback to inform the development of the product roadmap.   
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of instructional and technical specifications and oversee adherence to the specifications that will be documented in the product roadmap. 
  • In coordination with our vendor partner(s), provide leadership for the writing teams in the implementation of instructional and technical specifications, as well as overall quality assurance. This may include offering review and actionable feedback, both written and verbal, to teams about content.  
  • Ensure on-time delivery of deliverables by vendor partner(s) and their writing teams 
  • Work closely with vendor partners and project leadership in a rapid development process, including coordinating workflow where their involvement is required and engaging them in quality assurance to ensure alignment to the review rubrics provided by the client 
  • Collaborate with project team to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of the TEKS and ELPS within the SLA curriculum (K–6). 
  • Collaborate with project management team to ensure that established project management processes and structures are appropriately implemented.  
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, operations, and client services. 
  • Interface regularly with client content team.  
  • Inform and advise on the development of a new K–5 integrated curriculum product (RLA, Science, Social Studies). 
  • Availability during regular work week, with some night or weekend work as needed. 
  • Commitment for the duration of the project (anticipated to be through October 2024) with opportunity for future work. 

Qualifications

  • Passionate about reading, writing, and a wide variety of types of texts 
  • Knowledgeable about translation (i.e., expressing Spanish content in English), transadaptation (i.e., when expressing English content in Spanish, adapting a concept to be authentic to Spanish), and transcreation (approach that keeps a unit topic/theme, as well as the reading and writing skills, but changes the texts studied and lesson activities to study authentic Spanish texts) 
  • Dedicated to achievement for all students  

Required/Desired Experience 

  • Master’s degree or higher 
  • Experience teaching diverse learners in elementary classroom(s), including English Language Learners and students with disabilities  
  • Experience developing and implementing scaffolds to provide access to instruction for diverse learners including English Language Learners and students with disabilities.  
  • Knowledgeable about the ELPS framework, Proficiency Levels, and Proficiency Level Descriptors 
  • Knowledgeable about the ELPS integration into curriculum implementation Previous team leadership experience of 3 or more years 
  • Experience developing curricular resources for use by other teachers 
  • Experience with TEKS, ELPS, TELPAS, and STAAR Assessments 
  • Familiarity with Google Drive 
  • Familiarity with the current K–5 SLA and K–2 Spanish Skills products on Texas Home Learning (Preferred) 
  • Experience with digital learning instructional design (Preferred)
