Responsibilities

 

The Corporate Controller will be responsible for managing daily accounting activities for the parent company of a $700 million privately held consulting firm, headquartered in downtown Boston.  Manage the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Project Accounting functions.  Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies and procedures.  Plan, organize, and coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual closes.  Recommend accounting process improvements and ensure adequate documentation of accounting procedures.  Act as key contact to outside auditing firm and banks.  Provide accounting guidance to subsidiary companies.  Assist with accounting system upgrades/design of accounting system interfaces.  Assist with integration of newly acquired entities and special projects as assigned.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily accounting and reporting of parent company, including general accounting.
  • Supervise and delegate work within the accounting department.
  • Manage the Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Manage project accounting within the firm’s accounting system (project rates, project approval and set-up).
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate monthly and annual close processes.
  • Ensure company compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S.GAAP) and assist with interpretation and implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures and recommend accounting process improvements.
  • Provide accounting guidance to subsidiary companies, both U.S. and international.
  • Provide information needed by outside auditing firms in support of annual audit and tax return preparation.
  • Coordinate timing of subsidiary company audits and help address any issues that arise from those audits.
  • Ensure consistent application of revenue recognition rules including providing guidance and education to both corporate and practice area management.
  • Ensure balance sheet accounts for all companies are reconciled monthly with supporting documentation.
  • Assist CFO and VP of Finance with ad hoc reports, projections, and business analysis as needed.
  • Coordinate support from the Finance function for the Audit Committee and companywide Finance Committee.
  • Assist with accounting system upgrades, design of accounting system interfaces with other corporate software.
  • Assist in design and testing of new reports and changes to existing reports.
  • Partner with FP&A team to analyze actual financial results compared to annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Support the equity accounting function.
  • Assist with integration of newly acquired entities.
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Required Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Excel

   

The

Qualifications

      Required Experience:

  • CPA is required
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting
  • 10+ years of accounting experience including several years at the Controller level.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S.GAAP.
  • Prior supervisory experience.

      Experience in any of the following areas is not required but would be a plus:

  • Workday accounting system experience
  • International accounting experience
  • Working with Project Accounting systems
